Dovetailed Drawer in Walnut and Cherry

Tails & Pins

A close look at a drawer: cherry sides joined to the front with dovetails, behind a walnut drawer face.

Dovetails are the traditional way to build a drawer that survives decades of being pulled open. The angled tails on the cherry side lock into pins on the front, so every pull draws the joint tighter instead of working it apart.

The walnut face sits over the front, with a rounded edge that’s comfortable to grab. Inside a drawer is exactly where good work usually goes unnoticed; contrasting woods make it easy to see.
