Dovetailed Manitoba Maple Box
Ember
A dovetailed box in Manitoba maple, whose vivid red streaks wrap around the sides, with a walnut lid and a curly maple floor.
Manitoba maple is often dismissed as a weed tree, but its heartwood can hold streaks of red and pink that no other maple has. The boards for this box were arranged so a red vein runs around the corners.
The corners are joined with through dovetails, the lid is a walnut panel framed in maple, and inside, a curly maple floor shimmers under the light. Brass hinges and two brass latches finish it off.
